Zhejiang Normal University is a university in Jinhua,
Zhejiang, China. The Zhejiang province is one of the wealthier in China and has
western-influenced cities like Hangzhou and Yiwu. The city is Jinhua is quite
small, for Chinese standards, with a population just over a million. People speak
a local dialect and Mandarin Chinese, of course, but not much English. Jinhua has
a Wal-Mart, Century-Mart, Pizza Hut, KFC, Diary Queen, Starbucks, Mango and Calvin
Klein Jeans, but for more western accommodations Hangzhou and Shanghai are
within a day trip away. The city of Jinhua itself may seem a bit dirty compared
to more modern cities like Shanghai, but it is tolerable. The ZNU campus, on the
other hand, is very clean and daily maintained. The city center is about 10 to 20
minutes away from campus depending on mode of transportation. Just out of the
north and south gates, however, their are small shops to eat and buy goods. The
International dorm is on the other side of campus, closer to the east gate.
Even though the international dorm is further away from everything else
compared to the Chinese dorms, the international dorms are nice because they
are quite new and have western facilities with individual bathrooms and include
hot water. There is also a new cafe on the first floor as of April 2012 but it is a bit pricey. One vital factor to be aware of is the poor instillation and low
quality air-conditioners. This makes the winters brutally cold and summers suffocating hot.
