Packing

Take with you

·         Outlet converter for any electronic devices such as a laptop
·         Girls: tampons (they don’t sell them here)
·         Hair products (Chinese hair is very different from westerners)
·         Medicine
·         Extra contact lenses or your eye prescription
·         Durable shoes, pants, and coats if you expect to you are a bigger size than Chinese clothes
·         Underwear (Chinese underwear is weird and pricey)
·         Any foods you have attachment to (it is very hard to find cheese, olives, western pasta, baking ingredients, good chocolate, trail mix, protein powder, granola, etc. unless you are in a wealthy city)
·         Copies of all your important documents and money cards
·         Cash

Leave Behind

·         If you are small/petite clothing will not be an issue unless you are fashionable, so you can pack lately and buy clothes in China (there is also the option to have clothes made)
·         Your home SIM card (unless you absolutely need to hold on to it leave it at home and cancel your plan because one will be provided when you come here)
·         Most house-hold items can be found at any grocery store (can-openers, baking measurements, and tin-foil is hard to find).

Just about everything else you can find here and buy when needed. www.taobao.com is a very helpful website for finding these you might not be able to find in your local grocery. From toiletries to food to exercise gear, you can find just about anything and it ships within 2 to 5 days! Just have a Chinese friend help you out with the ordering process or find a shop that orders items for you for a small fee.
